History of the Event
This is a brief history of the event, which I hope to expand over time.
The Organiser
The Historic Hardwick Hall 6 Mile Road Race (just called the "Hardwick Run" by locals)
has entered into local history for the village of Pilsley and the surrounding area
- the event having been held almost every year since 1981. The man and the energy
behind the run is Pilsley resident, Cyril Leason - himself a competitive runner for
many years.
Key elements of the event include
- A Poster produced every year by Cyril
- Entertainment for the spectators during the race
- Race Commentary
- The Race Patron
- The "Mystery Runner" - an idea introduced in 1997. Originally, the identity of the
mystery runner was kept secret until the day of the race.
- Bess of Hardwick Torch, carried by the Mystery Runner, which is lit in the grounds
of Hardwick Hall, then is used to light beacons at the Hardwick Inn, "The Shoulder"
(Inn at Hardstoft), then finally at Pilsley Primary School.
- Prize Presentation
- A commemorative medal for all runners
